The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) has released its detailed response to the 2024/25 National Budget, presented in Parliament on February 23, 2024. This budget, which outlines the government’s fiscal priorities, has significant implications for the private sector and the broader economy.
MCCCI actively participated in the budget consultation process, submitting proposals aimed at fostering a conducive business environment, promoting local industries, and addressing key economic challenges. Some of these proposals, such as adjustments to import duties and tax allowances for shared-value projects, were incorporated into the budget. However, MCCCI continues to advocate for further reforms, including reduced excise rates for local fruit wines and revisions to withholding tax rates for contractors.

The response document provides a comprehensive analysis of the budget’s macroeconomic assumptions, tax policy measures, and fiscal strategies, while also highlighting areas where additional attention is needed to support sustainable economic growth.
