EXPORT DOCUMENTS ISSUED BY THE MALAWI CONFEDERATION OF CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY

CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN

A Certificate of Origin is a document that certifies that goods are produced or manufactured in a certain country. For the importing country this also serves as the basis for establishing whether the goods are entitled to preferential treatment or not. An exporter obtains a Certificate of Origin from Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), which he brings back for endorsement after duly completing it.

GENERALISED SYSTEM OF PREFERENCES

The Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) is a trade arrangement under which the EU and some developed countries such as Japan, Russia, USA and Canada offer preferential treatment to least developed countries by exempting them from paying import duties when exporting finished products or agricultural commodities. The exporter must show proof of origin of the goods by completing a GSP Form which is obtained from MCCCI. The Certificate is endorsed by MCCCI and the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).
