MCCCI elects new council members

MCCCI elects new council members Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry MCCCI has elected Prince Kapondamgaga, who is Chief Executive Officer for Farmers Union of Malawi as the confederation’s new president and James Amos Chimwaza of Business Computers Services Limited as its vice at an Annual General meeting held in Blantyre on Wednesday. The AGM also elected Maria Kritzas, Ahmed Sunka and Walter Nyamilandu as Southern Region councillors. Andrew Chinguwo, Alick Henderson Sikelo and Michael Noel Hodgkiss were elected councillors for the Central Region while Wickly Mhango, Bernard Kalua and Gurtej Singh Nain were elected Northern Region councillors. The new Trustees for the next four years are: W. T Chirwa, Don Whayo, Felix Mlusu, Arnold Shaba and Mathews Chikankheni. Delivering his acceptance speech, the new president said his first task is to ensure implementation of MCCCI’s strategic focus which aims at enhancing business facilitation and service delivery to members and building competiveness of members. He said during his tenure he will ensure refurbishment of the trade fair grounds at Chichiri in Blantyre and constructing new ones in Lilongwe and Mzuzu. He said MCCCI will push for the private sector participation in the energy sector to improve the business environment in Malawi which is currently characterized by perennial blackouts, with no end in sight. He further said, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) will be given special focus. He said: “We would like to ensure that the Confederation is involved in developing the future corporates of this economy. Thus linkages between small and large businesses, to ensure guaranteed markets for the SME’s”.
